Zumra Waheed came up with this fun typeface, inspired by High Heel Shoes. Here is a a rationale on the design:
This was a fun project overall because I got the chance to explore a diverse and massive collection of High-heeled shoes, which was the main inspiration for the typeface that I have created. In the same way, I have also thoroughly enjoyed the whole process of challenging myself in creating this typeface as I have always used to have this crazy idea that creating a font was one of the hardest things to do in graphic design and going ahead with this project has surely proved me wrong.
My inspiration for this typeface comes from High-heeled Shoes as I have mentioned earlier. I searched the internet for pictures of high-heeled shoes, read a bit about its background, and made rough sketches using pencil in order to see whether it would be possible to make a whole alphabet set out of it.
As I progressed, I was eager to experiment with different styles and forms however it turned out harder than I had expected. For instance, what disappointed me most was that it was definitely hard to fit certain letter forms into the dynamic shapes of shoes. “O” for example, if it was to resemble a shoe, should I either twist it or draw a shoe inside an ‘O’? For which I settled with taking out an element of the shoe, which was a shoe strap, then shaped it as an ‘O’ just so that something else would not look too out of shape. As I continued further I faced other obstacles. My first thought was to create a combination of different styles of shoes, but later I was advised to create a more uniform version of it that included a single style of shoe. It was fun however, to explore the various possibilities in how a single shoe can be shaped into the letters of the alphabet.
