Some really nice typefaces from Down Under, among the other creative stuff they are doing. Established in 1991, Letterbox undertakes typographic projects. Some of these are commissioned by clients (identity systems, signage systems, external publishing and font customisation) whilst others are initiated by the studio (such as lectures, publications, forums and exhibitions).

BISQUE

The product of careful crafting and digitising over six months, Bisque’s fluid script-like letterforms are strikingly unique, combining a clarity of legibility with an extraordinarily powerful graphic distinction. Perfect for editorial and identity purposes, this super elegant sans takes full advantage of Opentype scripting, featuring a large array of ligatures and contextual alternates. Bisque is by far the most advanced and comprehensive font yet released by Letterbox and includes Latin, European and Eastern European character sets.

BERBER

Initially inspired by an anonymous face from Learning to letter, Berber has been extensively developed to function as a very usable strong sans serif. Particularly suited to large-scale applications such as signage and headline titling, it has developed a very strong following since its design in late 2002. Berber was given an overhaul in 2007 to improve its Opentype capabilities. With its two weights — Regular and King Caps, Berber is now a fully serviceable and dramatic sans, capable of being used in a wide range of sizes. Lining and non-lining numerals are provided with both styles. Berber also features ligatures for certain characters enabling the user to customise particular words, in additon to words glyphs in the King Caps.
