This new hand-drawn creation from artists Giuseppe Salerno and Paco Gonzalez is exactly that, art and typography. 27 letters. 27 distinct typographies. It took more than a month of hard work to complete the entire alphabet. Each letter was created to stand alone, each letter representing a particular style, while at the same time maintaining unity when placed together. The effect is an a eye-popping headline.

A poster you stop to look at. Mixed mediums were used: Indian ink & white acrylic, hand-drawn with different brushes & fountain pens on smooth Japanese paper. Each letter was painted with white, warm grays and black. 27 types of cursive, block letters and stylized calligraphy.

ODE TO A LETTER

Inspired by my love for letters and typography I decided to make an ode to all the letters of the alphabet. I wrote a letter to each of the 26 characters of the alphabet, starting with ‘Dear A…’, Dear B..’,’Dear C…’ etc. For these letters I used the most personal typography I have , my own handwriting. I brought my handwriting to a higher level, honoring every character. A  3D-wooden sculpture was created for each single character to accompany the letter as well.

Handpainted Type is a project that is dedicated to preserving the typographic practice
of street painters around India. These painters, with the advent of local DTP (Desktop Publishers) shops, are rapidly going out of business with many businesses and shops switching to the quicker, cheaper but uglier vinyls. Many painters have given up their practice altogether. The project involves documenting the typefaces of road side painters across India, digitizing it and archiving it for future generations.

I design typefaces. Sorta. More accurately, I should say that every now and then I’ll start sketching out an idea for some kooky new lettering and before I know it I’ve put an entire alphabet together. Naturally, it occurs to me that a finished set of letters is a big step towards a complete typeface, and that it might be fun to finish it and possibly even release it for others to use. So I start drafting up some plans for the rest of the character set, come up with a suitably pretentious name, and settle in for the long haul.

Reklame Script is a brush typefamily consisting of four weights. It was designed by Hannes von Döhren in 2010. This family is influenced by the handlettering of printed advertisements of the 1940s and 1950s. You can combine the four weights to gain a better emphasis – perfect for headlines, posters, and other display uses.

Reklame Script is equipped for professional typography. The OpenType fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages. The fonts also contain double-letter ligatures to prevent repetition.
